BANGLA DESH.

When Ravi Shankar told George Harrison of the suffering in war-torn Bangla Desh, the ex-Fab was moved to organise some of his friends to raise money. On August 1st, 1971, they staged two concerts at New York's Madison Square Gardens.
The friends included Badfinger, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Billy Preston, Leon Russell, Ravi Shankar, Ringo Starr and Klaus Voorman.
Allen Klein assisted as producer and had aimed to bring the four ex-Beatles together for the gig. He was having the concert filmed and hoped to build the footage of their first live Beatles concert since 1966 into a documentary on the band's history. Unfortunately, Paul McCartney got stuck in traffic somewhere en-route and John Lennon, thinking Paul was doing it deliberately, pulled out.

BANGLES, THE.

Formed in Los Angeles, 1981.
Susanna Hoffs - guitar, vocals; Debbie Peterson - drums, vocals; Vicki Peterson - guitar, vocals; Mickis Steele - bass, vocals.
Initially known as The Bangs, they recorded a single and e.p. before signing to CBS in 1984 and changing their name to The Bangles.
Their bright jangly guitar sound made them popular airplay material for radio but it wasn't until the 1986 album, "Different Light", that they scored commercially. A handfull of chart hits followed culminating in the international number one, "Eternal Flame", in 1989. While still on a peak, the band split with Hoffs following a solo recording career as well as movie offers.
