CRUDUP, ARTHUR "BIG BOY".

Born 25th August 1905 in Forest, Mississippi.Died of a stroke 28th March 1974 in Nassawadox, Virginia.
Guitar, vocals.
Country blues singer of the 1930s and 1940s. He spent several years living under the 39th Street "L" station in Chicago, busking on street corners. One day he was spotted by Lester Melrose (talent scout/A&R man) and signed to RCA's Bluebird Records label in the late forties. During the early fifties he worked with Sonny Boy Williamson, Elmore James and others. He even cut the follow-up to James' "Dust My Broom" as Elmer James.
Although he was easily one of the greatest of the Delta bluesmen, his career had taken him nowhere in three decades. By the early fifties, he had acheived very little until a young rock and roller called Elvis Presley covered his "That's Alright" and suddenly his future was secure.
