ELLIOTT, RAMBLIN' JACK.
Born Elliot Charles Adnopoz on 1st August 1931 in Brooklyn, New York.
Son of a Jewish doctor, he ran away from home, aged sixteen, to join Colonel Jim
Eskew's Rodeo. He did return home and went to college, where he took up the guitar.
He modelled himself on Woody Guthrie who he met in 1951. They became close friends
with Guthrie once declaring, "He sounds more like me than I do".
After Guthrie's death, Elliot did much to keep his flame burning taking his music to
a new, young generation of folk fans around the world. He was a major influence in the
folk boom of the sixties and its stars.
