SCOTLAND could house the United Kingdom's first Rock 'n' Roll museum boasting memorabilia like Jimi Hendrix's trousers and Marc Bolan's tambourine. The collection would be made up from Sixties gear all from the archive of an enthusiast, Roy Deane.

His Coupar Angus house heaves with more than 10,000 music papers - valued at £60,000 - 5,000 hours of rock video and 25,000 hours of unreleased audio tapes.

Now Roy wants to sell his collection. His ideal option would be to set up a Rock 'n' Roll museum. If he cannot obtain the cash backing, it will go under the hammer.

As a whole, the collection would sell for more than £125,000, but plans for a Christies auction last month were dashed for a more ambitious project.

Jack Martin, head ot Perth and Kinross District Council's economic development unit, and representatives of Scottish Enterprise Tayside will meet next week to discuss proposals for a Rock n' Roll museum.

"Plans are still at an early stage and we haven't even considered sites," Mr Martin told The Scotsman last night.

"But a venture like this could attract up to 50 per cent of public funding and Perth seems an ideal venue for it."
